MD arrested for sexually harassing flight attendant

PENANG: The managing director of a pig farm was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a Hong Kong-based flight attendant at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas recently.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mazlan Ayob said the man from Nibong Tebal was later released on police bail after his statement was taken down.

Supt Mazlan said the 36-year-old flight attendant was thanking passengers as they were leaving the aircraft when the 52-year-old man suddenly allegedly poked at her private parts with his finger.

“The passenger left the plane as if nothing had happened. The woman, who had the shock of her life, complained to her supervisor who advised her to lodge a police report.

“We managed to obtain the passenger’s identity and address from the passenger list. He turned up at the Bayan Lepas police station when the investigating officer called him up,” he said.

Police have classified the case as outraging of modesty under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, fine, whipping, or any two such punishments, upon conviction.

In an unrelated incident, police arrested a 30-year-old hotel lifeguard and recovered 300gm of ganja in Batu Ferringhi here on Tuesday.

The man was picked up during a five-hour anti-drug operation at 4pm.

Three packets of ganja were found in his waist pouch and pants pocket after a body search.

A two-week remand order for the man was obtained from the magistrate’s court yesterday.

The case has been classified as trafficking under Section 39B of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

State Narcotics Department deputy chief DSP Mohamad Anil Shah confirmed the arrest but declined to comment.

The police team also rounded up four beach boys, who tested positive for drug abuse, during the operation.
