QANTAS Airways Ltd's discount offshoot Jetstar has launched its livery and uniforms ahead of beginning flights later this month. Jetstar said it will offer online fare prices starting from as low as $59 one-way when it starts services from May 25.

The livery of Australia's newest budget airline, Jetstar, in Sydney.

Operating from 14 destinations along Australia's east coast from Hobart to Cairns, Jetstar will operate more than 600 flights per week, and offer every day, all day low fares through the internet at jetstar.com

Jetstar Chief Executive Alan Joyce said there had been an overwhelming response to Jetstar services since it launched in February. "The start of Jetstar is an exciting time for Australian aviation, and the lower fares and response is set to have an impact on domestic tourism," Mr Joyce said.

Jetstar today launched its livery and uniforms at a media briefing at the Qantas Sydney Jetbase today. The aircraft livery, unveiled on one of the airline's Boeing 717s, features a metallic silver fuselage, and the Jetstar five point star in orange on its tail, designed to represent the smallest star of the Southern Cross, Epsilon Crucis.

"This is the livery that will feature on our A320 fleet that will be progressively introduced into service from July 2004," Mr Joyce said.

Jetstar staff will wear black wool, with accents in Jetstar orange.

There are optional features for the uniforms for both female and male cabin crew. The short or long sleeved male polo shirt is accompanied by a jacket, open for style. The collar is marked in orange stripes to signal rank. Female crew have choice from a black wool-blend shift dress or pant. Both male and female crew sport a jacket, the men's with orange highlights in comparison to the dominant orange colour for the female version.

Mr Joyce said the colours of orange, black and silver were selected by Jetstar as confident colours to represent the fun, leisure qualities of the airline's core product offering.

Jetstar's initial 14 Boeing 717 aircraft fleet will progressively become branded in the new livery. Jetstar will move to an A320 fleet numbering 23 aircraft by mid 2006. Jetstar commences flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane Airports to 10 eastern seaboard destinations on 25 May, operating up to 88 flights per day. Services commence from Avalon Airport near Melbourne directly connecting Sydney and Brisbane from 1 June.
